Indian PM Receives UAE’s Zayed Medal

UAE honoured PM Narendra Modi with highest decoration on Wednesday

UAE has honoured Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi with the Zayed Medal for strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations

On Wednesday, the Zayed Medal was bestowed upon PM Narendra Modi by the United Arab Emirates. He received the highest honour for solidifying bilateral ties between the two nations.

UAE Crown Prince, Zayed Al Nahyan tweeted, “We have historical and comprehensive strategic ties with India, reinforced by the pivotal role of my dear friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who gave these relations a big boost. In appreciation of his efforts, the UAE President grants him the Zayed Medal.”

Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, PM Modi tweeted, “Thank you, Your Highness Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. I accept this honour with utmost humility.”

PM Modi added, “Under your visionary leadership, our strategic ties have reached new heights. This friendship is contributing to the peace and prosperity of our people and planet.”

The Zayed Medal is UAE’s highest honour. The decoration is bestowed upon Kings, Presidents and Heads of State.

According to the Indian Ministry of External Affair, “The State visit of the Prime Minister to UAE on February 10-11, 2018, helped in sustaining the momentum generated by earlier visits of Crown Prince in 2017 and 2016 and that of PM in 2015.”

Cooperation between the two countries has strengthened further through trade, investment and energy cooperation.

Indian External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj asserted, “On behalf of the people of India, I express our deep sense of gratitude to His Highness the President, His Highness the Crown Prince of UAE for this great honour. With this, you have honoured India and the people of India”

Previously, the Zayed Medal has been given to Queen Elizabeth II, Vladimir Putin, and Xi Jinping.

Over the last few years, UAE has become India’s second largest export destination. India is UAE’s second largest trading partner, with a record of $50 billion in 2017.

Additionally, UAE is India’s fifth largest supplier of crude oil. The Arab nation comprises 8 percent of India’s total oil import.
