Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday, filed nomination to contest Lok Sabha Election from a second seat
Amidst huge crowd of supporters, the Indian National Congress President, Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers from Kerala’s Wayanad, on Thursday. Gandhi was accompanied by the INC General Secretary from UP East, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. After nomination filing, the duo held a massive roadshow in the city with thousands of supporters gathered on both sides of roads.
Shortly after completing the paper work, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra posted a picture on her official social media profile and tweeted: “My brother, my truest friend, and by far the most courageous man I know. Take care of him Wayanad, he won’t let you down.”
Address the media after concluding the schedule in the city, Gandhi remarked, “I have come to Kerala to send a message that India is one. I feel there is an assault on all institutions by (the current Indian Prime Minister) Modi. I decided I will contest from South India and also from North India.”
Gandhi further added, “My motto is to send a message of unity and peace across South India. There is a cultural attack against people, languages and ideologies in India. I needed to send a message that India is one country.”
The INC President’s decision to contest from two seats, one being the home ground of Amethi and other from South India, was formally announced last week. Since the announcement, INC has been at the receiving end of both positive and negative feedback. While the Bhartiya Janta Party has termed Gandhi’s South India detour an “acceptance of defeat,” the Left front has also expressed displeasure over the decision.
Meanwhile, Gandhi’s main election rival and BJP candidate from the Amethi constituency, Union Minister, Smriti Irani has maintained that Rahul Gandhi’s decision is an “insult to Amethi.” “He enjoyed a position of power for 15 years because of the support from Amethi, but now he is going to file nomination from elsewhere. This is an insult of Amethi and people here will not tolerate this,” she said.
