President U Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar is on an official visit to India from 30 May to 3 June 2026, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This marks President U Min Aung Hlaing’s first visit to India in his current capacity, and he is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising several Cabinet ministers, senior officials, and business leaders.
The visit commenced with President U Min Aung Hlaing arriving at Gaya International Airport, Bihar, where he was received by Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.). President Hlaing visited the Mahabodhi Temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment, and the Mahabodhi Ekta Dhamma Monastery. He was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour on arrival. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted India’s civilisational and spiritual ties with Myanmar.
Following his Bihar engagements, President U Min Aung Hlaing travelled to New Delhi. He was received at the airport by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh. MoS Singh posted on X regarding the visit, stating: “His visit underscores the enduring civilisational, cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Myanmar. It also provides an opportunity to further strengthen our partnership across diverse sectors and advance our shared vision for regional peace, prosperity and connectivity.” On the same day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called on him. The following day, 31 May, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval called on President U Min Aung Hlaing in New Delhi. The discussions focused on border security, connectivity, defence cooperation, and trade.
Bilateral talks were held at Hyderabad House, New Delhi on 1 June. Following the talks, MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X: “PM Narendra Modi held wide-ranging discussions with President U Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on further deepening India-Myanmar bilateral ties. Both sides agreed to advance partnership for peace, progress and prosperity and to further collaborate in areas of trade, investment, connectivity, development partnership, capacity building, security and border management. PM conveyed that India remains Myanmar’s trusted neighbour, a reliable partner and steadfast first responder in times of crisis, in line with India’s Neighbourhood First, Act East and MAHASAGAR policies. PM reaffirmed India’s readiness to support peace and dialogue in Myanmar, including by sharing federal governance and economic growth experiences.”
Following the Hyderabad House talks, President U Min Aung Hlaing called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He also visited The Light and the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One at the Raipithora cultural complex, Qila Rai Pithora, a landmark international exposition showcasing the sacred Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha.
President U Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to travel to Mumbai on 2 June for business and industry engagements, which will include interactions with Indian industry leaders and visits to key commercial sites.
