INS Kochi, a stealth guided-missile destroyer of India has entered Port Victoria of the Republic of Seychelles for Operation Turnaround
INS Kochi operates in Southern Indian Ocean Region around India’s territory. Two months after General (Retd) Dalbir Singh Suhag was appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Seychelles; INS Kochi, a stealth guided-missile destroyer of India, entered the port of Victoria in Seychelles on Thursday for Operation Turnaround.
During the Operational special visit, the Commanding Officer met Seychelles Vice President Vincent Meriton and the newly appointed Indian ambassador to Seychelles General (Retd) Dalbir Singh Suhag.
According to a statement issued by Indian Navy, Indian ships of the First Training Squadron (1TS) INS Tarangini, INS Sujata, INS Shardul and ICGS Sarathi have already departed from Port Victoria on April 10, 2019, after successfully completing Overseas Deployment, known as Sambandh.
The deployed ships had undertaken relief operations at the Cyclone Idai affected Port Beira in Mozambique.
INS Kochi of India is the second ship of the indigenously designed and constructed Project 15A guided-missile destroyers. It has been built by the Mazagon Dock Ltd., Mumbai. It measures 164 meters in length and approximately 17 meters in width, with a full load displacement of 7500 tonnes. The ship is packed with the most sophisticated state-of-the-art weapons and digital sensors making it the most potent amongst the surface combatants constructed in India.
