Corruption becomes India’s Key Focus Area in G-20 Summit Declaration

Indian PM Narendra Modi and his contingent have stressed on including corruption and financial fraud as a key focus area for the concluding G-20 Declaration.

A day after PM Modi arrived in Japan for the G-20 Summit 2019, India has resolved its stand to include a strong statement against corruption in the Osaka Declaration, a  binding document of course of action throughout the year until the next G-20 Summit. Indian contingent at the G-20 Summit has said in an official statement that negotiations with world leaders will include a strong paragraph on the issue of corruption, to be ultimately included in the Osaka Declaration 2019.

Indian contingent has also highlighted a push for a global framework to curtail black money, terrorism financing and the return of economic offenders. PM Modi has highlighted that the lingering issue of financial security is a crucial step towards the achievement of India’s economic security.

Apart from the on-going negotiations on key areas of bilateral agreements in the G-20 Summit 2019, New Delhi will become part of the troika countries that include the next of a set of G20 hosting chairs with Saudi Arabia hosting the next G-20 Summit in 2020, Italy in 2021 and India in 2022. The G-20 2022 will be hosted in New Delhi.
