Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds an “excellent” meeting together with his Russian counterpart President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed a range of bilateral issues.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi said that he “had an excellent meeting with President Putin.” Additionally, they “reviewed the full range of India-Russia relations.”
As a matter of fact, “India and Russia are cooperating extensively in areas such as trade, security and culture.” He summed up by saying that “the people of our nations will benefit due to close bilateral ties.”
The PMO handle tweet coupled with a photo of the two leaders meeting, “Adding strength to India-Russia ties.”
The leaders met on other occasions as well. This is the 4th time the leaders have met this year. Their meeting at BRICS summit coupled with an invitation. President Putin reiterates his invitation to PM Modi to visit Moscow. Moscow is planning on celebrating their Victory Day celebrations next year. PM Modi gladly accepted the invite to the event.
Besides, President Putin also invited India to invest in Arctic region which has huge potential in natural gas.
Both the leaders reviewed the progress in terms of bilateral relationship since Modi’s visit to Vladivostok in September. Similarly, Prime Minister Modi mentioned about the successful visits of two of his ministers, an MEA statement said. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan visited to Russia this year.
Importantly, the two leaders mentioned about $25 billion target of bilateral trade by 2025 which has already been. In order to dismantle the barriers of trade at regional level, the leaders decided on holding meetings. Uniquely, the 1st Bilateral Regional Forum at the level of Russian Provinces and Indian States will be held next year.
