Amit Shah was scheduled to hold a rally in Bengal’s Jadavpur on Monday, but was declined permission by the authorities. However his Canning and Rajarhat rallies continued as per the schedule.

BJP chief Amit Shah’s scheduled rally in West Bengal’s Jadavpur constituency on Monday was denied the permission. He alleged that WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee deliberately denies landing permission to helicopters of several saffron party leaders.

According to an ANI report, Shah was denied permission to land his chopper. Sources from BJP said the party had sought permission from the owner of the land but he denied it. However, Banerjee dismissed the charges saying that the request came at the “eleventh hour”.

Meanwhile, his Canning and Rajarhat programmes in the state would continue as per the schedule. Hitting out at the Bengal government, Shah called the incident as ‘chopper politics’. He went on to dare the TMC supremo to arrest him for chanting “Jai Shri Ram”. “The TMC can stop me from addressing rallies. But can’t stop the victory march of BJP in Bengal,” Shah said while addressing a rally at Canning.

This is not the first time BJP president’s programme had to be cancelled for want of requisite permission. In January this year, Shah was scheduled to hold a rally in Malda. But permission was denied for his chopper to land in the district. However, authorities allowed him to hold the public meeting at the last minute.

Several other leaders were denied permission to land their helicopters for addressing rallies in different locations of Bengal. BJP’s Smriti Irani, former CMs Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Madhya Pradesh and Arjun Munda of Jharkhand, are among others.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, too, was declined permission to land his chopper in the state. He was scheduled to hold two rallies here on February 3. However, he addressed the rally Raiganj via telephone that day.
