The United States President, Donald Trump will be meeting the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Argentina on the sidelines of the G20 summit. The trilateral meeting would be the first of its kind for the three countries involved.

On the sidelines of the G20 summit in the last week of November, the leaders of Japan, India and the United States have scheduled a trilateral meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The meeting between US President Donald Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe would be the first ever trilateral leaders’ meeting between the nations.

The United States National Security Advisor, John Bolton stated that President Trump attending the G20 summit this week would be meeting Abe for a bilateral meeting. Bolton said that the bilateral meeting will turn into a trilateral meet at some point where Modi will join the two leaders. The meet will mark great significance for the three governments attempting to establish a comprehensible Indo-Pacific strategic region.

This will be the first head of state meeting between the US, Japan and India. Prior to this, the first working-level meeting took place in 2011, followed by a trilateral meet between the Foreign Ministers of the three countries in 2015. While Japan and the US share a treaty alliance, India has strong strategic relations with both nations.

The United States government granted India access to sensitive defence technologies in 2016, declaring the nation to be a major partner for defence. The Japan-India ties have also strengthened after Modi and Abe’s meeting at a summit in Japan, earlier this year.
