External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar’s Visit To UAE

November 27, 2020: India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr.S.Jaishankar, paid a two-day official visit to UAE on November 25-26, 2020. During the visit, he called on Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and held talks with his counterpart, the Foreign Minister of UAE, HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. 

Dr. Jaishankar and Foreign Minister of UAE, HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, held discussions on a range of bilateral issues including trade, investment, infrastructure, energy, food security and defence. They also discussed recent regional and international developments and agreed to continue coordination on various multilateral issues.

“Discussed advancing our strategic cooperation in the post-COVID era. Exchanged views on important regional and international issues. Always a pleasure to return to UAE,” Dr. Jaishankar tweeted on November 26.

He also held virtual discussions with the representatives of the Indian community associations in Abu Dhabi.

India and the UAE established diplomatic relations in 1972 and the relationship has been marked with several high level visits. India also has an established and flourishing trade relationship with UAE. India’s primary import is crude oil. In 2019-20, India imported 21.83 MMT (US$ 10,927.52 Million) of crude oil from UAE. Many UAE companies have invested in various infrastructure projects and joint ventures in India. The defence cooperation between the two countries is also increasing and steered by the Joint Defence Co-operation Committee. UAE also has a large number of Indian diaspora of around 3.3 million people.
