PAN Card may not be necessary anymore for filing of Taxes, Aadhaar Card may play its role.
Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2019 proposed the use of Aadhaar Cards instead of PAN Cards for filling Taxes.
She stated during her speech in the parliament “More than 120 crore Indians now have Aadhaar card, therefore for ease of taxpayers I propose to make PAN card and Aadhaar card interchangeable and allow those who don’t have PAN to file returns by simply quoting Aadhaar number and use it wherever they require to use PAN.”
In her maiden budget, the Finance Minister also proposed to issue Non-Resident Indians with the Aadhaar Card on their arrival in India. Currently, the NRI’s have to wait for a minimum span of 180 days for procurement of the number.
The NRIs who fall under the category are the ones who still hold the Indian passport.
She also proposed to issue them to non-resident Indians (NRI’s) holding Indian passport on their arrival in the country. Under the current rule, NRI’s were required to wait for 180 days to get.
She said “I propose to consider issuing it for NRIs with Indian Passports after their arrival in India without waiting for mandatory 180 days,” Sitharaman said in her budget speech.
