Voting for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections has taken place in seven states, where the national capital is witnessing a triangular contest between the BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress.

The sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections began on Sunday morning in 59 constituencies across seven states. Elections are undergoing in Bihar, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Delhi. A total of 979 candidates are in fray in the penultimate phase of the General Election.

The fate of several prominent politicians will be decided today. The main contestants in fray today include BJP’s Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur fielded against Congress’s Digvijaya Singh in Bhopal. Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur will see face-off between Maneka Gandhi of BJP and Congress’s Sanjay Singh. The seat was won by Maneka Gandhi’s son Varun Gandhi in 2014 Lok Sabha election.

Azamgarh is witnessing a Yadav versus Yadav battle. This seat would see a close contest between SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and BJP candidate Dinesh Lal Yadav. Dinesh is a Bhojpuri film actor popularly known as ‘Nirahua’.

Delhi’s seven seats are witnessing a three-cornered battle between the BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress. Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has locked horns with Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari from North-East Delhi constituency. AAP’s Dilip Pandey is also in fray from here. East Delhi would see a triangular contest between BJP’s cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir, AAP’s Atishi Marlena and Congress’s Arvinder Singh Lovely.

Delhi’s seven seats are witnessing a three-cornered battle between the BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress, with ex-chief minister Sheila Dikshit, Union Minister Harshvardhan, former Olympian boxer Vijender Singh and cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir among those fighting for electoral victory.

Besides, re-polling is taking place in 168 polling stations in 26 assembly segments of Tripura today. Earlier, the constituency had witnessed malpractices during voting in the first phase of the elections on April 11.
