The SC has asked CBI to investigate the Unnao rape victim’s accident and submit a report within 14 days.
The Supreme Court took suo moto cognizance of the Unnao rape case after it was brought to their notice by a letter written by the victim’s family on receiving death threats from the accusers dated on 12 July.
The Supreme court ordered for all the 5 cases related to the case to be transferred from Lucknow to Delhi. The Court has also instructed the trials of all the 5 cases to be completed within 45 days. The Supreme Court also announced speedy compensation to be provided by the U.P. government to the victim and her family.
The U.P. government has already provided a cheque of 25 lakhs as compensation to them. The CBI after has now booked a case against the prime accused Mr Sengar and the others for the charges of murder.
The case came into light when the victim’s car collided with a moving truck and critically injured the girl her lawyer besides killing two of her aunt’s. They were travelling to the court for the hearing of the rape case. The trucks number plate was seen to be smeared with black paint.
First, the police considered it as an accident, but due to the opposition’s pressure and the family’s complaint, claiming foul play, the police launched an investigation against the accused, Mr Sengar and the others involved.
The victim is now in a critical condition in King George’s Medical University Lucknow, and will not be shifted to AIIMS, Delhi after the victim’s mother refused to transfer the victim.
The victim 17 years old, a minor then, and 19 now had approached Mr Sengar, a then lawmaker, for a job. She was then kidnapped and raped for several weeks by the prime accuser and several other men. The girl filed a police complaint against them, After, the complaint, the family of the victim was assaulted at several events. Frustrated, with the inaction, the victim tried to immolate herself alive in front of the U.P Chief Minister’s residence.
