Bitterly fragmented US House of Representatives sets out the rules and procedures of an impeachment inquiry.

On Thursday, the lawmakers approved rules for the next stage of the democratic led inquiry. Importantly, the Democrats allege that the President attempt to have Ukraine investigate a domestic political rival. Interestingly, he asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to investigate Joe Biden.

Evidently, Joe Biden is President Trump’s Democratic Political Rival. Significantly, Biden was former US vice President. His son Hunter has served as a director for Ukrainian energy company Burisma. Additionally, Biden is a leading candidate in Democratic Presidential nomination race to face Trump in November 2020 election.

The inquiry could damage President Donald Trump’s image ahead of the 2020 Presidential elections. Since the Democratic-controlled House voted almost along the party lines- 232 to 196. It paved the way to move the probe forward in congress.

The votes signify unity among democrats. Unfortunately, “no one comes to congress to impeach a President.” “It’s a sad day,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

In this regard, President Trump tweets saying “greatest witch hunt in American History.” Notably, it was the first formal test of support for impeachment. This has proved that democrats have enough backing to bring formal charges later on. Moreover, the democrats can file if they feel they have adequate evidence to prove the stand.

Moreover, Republicans accused democrats of using impeachment to overturn the results of his victory in 2016. The proceedings were televised, featuring US officials testifying in Congress about alleged wrongdoings by Trump. This could crowd out other issues like the economy and immigration. Importantly, the issue has the potential of turning voter’s minds before November 2020 elections.
