The prime minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed arrived in Berlin, the capital city of Germany on October 30. Upon his arrival in the city, he met Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The Embassy of Germany in Ethiopia shared that the meeting between the two leaders will focus on reforms that are underway back home as well as explore investment opportunities for German companies. The meeting will also address peace efforts in the Horn of Africa region with an emphasis on the Ethiopia-Eretria peace deal.
Abiy has participated in the second edition of the G20 Compact with Africa (CwA) meeting currently in progress in Berlin. The Ethiopian Prime Minister will also be paying a visit to the city of Frankfurt, where he will be meeting Ethiopian nationals.
It may be recalled that the CwA was initiated in 2017 under German G20 Presidency with a view to encourage investment in Africa. As of now, 11 African countries, including Ghana, Egypt, Rwanda, Morocco have joined the initiative.
