As a first, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will have a representative at the Miss Universe platform which is scheduled to be held in Mexico City, Mexico, on 16th November 2024. The year 2024 will witness the 73rd edition of the much-awaited and coveted Miss Universe pageant.
The UAE’s Miss Universe candidate Emilia Dobreva has been crowned at the Miss Universe UAE at an audition ceremony held in October, which confirms her participation on the world stage a month later. Dobreva is a Dubai-based model who has been residing in the country for over a decade with her husband and children.
She is expected to participate in the competition along with candidates from 130 countries across the globe. As per the National Director for the UAE Ms. Poppy Capella, Dobreva has been the perfect choice for Miss Universe UAE, who speaks Arabic and is a smart and beautiful woman.
According to the National Director, in the national costume round, Dobreva is expected to wear an “abaya” that is considered an homage to the UAE. The abaya is designed such that the top part of the costume will depict the modernity achieved by UAE and the bottom part will consist of the real sand taken from the country. The costume so designed will embody UAE, depicting how it has been shaped into a modern country from the sand.

The events associated with the 73rd edition of Miss Universe have begun and the year 2024 will witness the participation of around 130 women who will have to contest amongst each other, through different stages like personal statements and in-depth interviews among others, bringing them closer in succeeding the Miss Universe 2023 winner, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.
It is the first time since 2007 that the contest is taking place in Mexico and is expected to be a massive event in the history of the Miss Universe pageant. The event is taking place at the 22,000-capacity Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City.
India’s Participation
Rhea Singha from Gujarat will represent India at the pageant. She was selected as the Miss Universe India 2024, amongst the many aspiring candidates at the Miss Universe India grand finale which took place in Jaipur, Rajasthan in September 2024.
