Sri Lanka, Nepal to Participate in Vibrant Gujarat Summit

The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is scheduled to be held from 10-22 January 2022 and it has already created the right buzz among participants. Reports suggest that Sri Lanka is going to be one of the partner countries to host the 10th summit.

The formal announcement is yet to be made. If Sri Lanka is selected as the partner for this event which aims to boost business networking, sharing of knowledge and strategic partnerships, it would definitely aid in the socio-economic development of both the countries.

The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is one of the top networking events in the region and it sees participation of global investors, policy makers, business leaders and more from across the globe. The January 2022 summit is expected to bring together 40,000 participants from 135 countries.

The event, organized by the government of Gujarat, has extended invitations to Sri Lankan Tourism and other key private sector companies to participate in the event.

In addition to Sri Lanka, Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is also likely to participate in the event, organized in the state capital Gandhinagar. While the detailed itinerary of the visiting leader is still not available, it is likely that the Nepalese Prime Minister will also meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. When the visiting leader is in New Delhi and Gujarat, he is also likely to interact with other senior Indian leaders.

The Nepalese Prime Minister’s visit is significant as this would be his first foreign visit after he was elected as the prime minister for the fifth time in July 2021.

The central theme of the 10th edition of the event is “From Atma Nirbhar Gujarat to Atma Nirbhar Bharat.” The platform will focus on key areas such as sustainable agricultural practices and Agro and Food processing, Export-led growth, knowledge and skill-based economy, holistic healthcare, startups and innovation. The attempt is also to make Gujarat a destination for global investments. Dholera Special Investment Region – India’s first Greenfield Industrial Smart City, would also be in focus.

Among other events, a round table on the Russian Far East and Arctic Region is scheduled to boost collaboration and cooperation with Russia in trade and investments.

Apart from Russia, Sri Lanka and Nepal, Denmark, the Netherlands and Canada are also likely to participate in this program.

This biennial event was conceptualized in 2003, when the current Indian Prime Minister was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
