His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has held a series of high-level meetings with global leaders on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg on 22nd November, 2025, where discussions centred on strengthening bilateral partnerships and addressing some of the most pressing issues on the summit’s agenda.
During talks with His Excellency Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Crown Prince explored avenues to expand collaboration across sectors pivotal to both countries’ economic ambitions. The meeting touched on emerging opportunities in trade, investment and technology, reflecting the growing economic ties between the UAE and Vietnam. Both sides also reviewed the broader themes under consideration at the Johannesburg summit, including inclusive economic growth, the evolution of development partnerships, and the expanding role of advanced technology in improving quality of life and driving global sustainable development.
Among those accompanying Sheikh Khaled at the meeting were His Excellency Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi, Minister of Investment; His Excellency Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; His Excellency Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Office of the Crown Prince; and Her Excellency Maryam Eid AlMheiri, Chairperson of Abu Dhabi Media Office and Advisor of Strategic Relations at the Crown Prince Court.
Talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz
The Crown Prince also met Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, to discuss cooperation in areas where both countries already share strong foundations, particularly energy, technology, development and innovation. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding joint initiatives that support sustainable development, while exploring the potential of modern technological solutions—especially artificial intelligence—to bolster resilience and diversify future-ready economies.
Their discussions further addressed the central themes of the G20 agenda, including global economic stability, development financing, and efforts to reinforce international supply chains. Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, joined the UAE delegation during the talks, alongside Minister of Investment Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi and Saif Saeed Ghobash.
UAE Delegation and Summit Priorities
Sheikh Khaled arrived in Johannesburg on Friday to represent President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at this year’s summit, marking the first time the G20 is hosted on the African continent. The UAE is attending at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. The delegation includes senior ministers and officials, among them Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of State; Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri; and Maryam Eid AlMheiri.
This year’s summit is focused on inclusive global growth, ensuring a fair and balanced transition in the energy sector, and accelerating progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals—areas where the UAE has emphasised collaboration and long-term international engagement.
Global Leaders Respond to US-Led Peace Efforts on Ukraine
Separately, several world leaders at the summit voiced support for ongoing US efforts aimed at advancing a peace framework for Ukraine. An initial 28-point draft—currently under discussion—was acknowledged as containing key elements considered essential for a just and lasting settlement. In a joint statement issued via the European Council on Saturday, leaders stressed that while the draft provides a workable foundation, further refinement is needed. They underscored that national borders must not be altered by force and expressed concern over proposals that could limit Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, cautioning that such restrictions could leave the country exposed to future threats. The statement clarified that any provisions involving the European Union or NATO would require the explicit agreement of their respective member states. “We take this opportunity to underline the strength of our continued support to Ukraine,” the leaders affirmed, adding that they would remain in close coordination with Kyiv and Washington in the days ahead.
