Russian President Vladimir Putin Awards Commemorative Medal to Kim Jong Un

The medal was awarded for his role in preserving the memory of Soviet soldiers who died on North Korean territory during World War II

Russian President Vladimir Putin has awarded North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un a commemorative medal marking the 75th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany, as reported by the Pyongyang Times. As per the reports, a ceremony took place at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang on May 5.

The commemorative medal was awarded in honour of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the ‘Great Patriotic War 1941-1945’. ‘Great Patriotic War’ refers to the conflict fought during the period from 22 June 1941 to 9 May 1945 along the many fronts of the Eastern Front of World War II, primarily between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. The term is used in Russia and other former republics of the Soviet Union (except in Baltic states and Ukraine).
