Prime Minister Modi’s New Cabinet

The much awaited Cabinet reshuffle of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi took place on 7th July 2021. 43 Ministers including new and old, took oath at the Rashtrapati Bhavan with President of India Ram Nath Kovind.

Many sources are seeing this as an effort to increase teamwork and cooperation as many Ministries have been clubbed together. Government has made efforts to balance between political messaging of various regional as well as marginalised communities. The inclusion of people with high skills sets and educational qualification have bought more into the addition. 

The cabinet has inclusion of 12 Ministers from Scheduled Caste (SC), 27 from Other Backward Classes (OBC), 8 from Scheduled Tribes (ST). One Muslim, One Christian, One Sikh and Two Buddhist are present too. Women Ministers number at 11 in the Modi Government with two Cabinet Minister and others being Ministers of State. 

The reshuffle was the result of a long process by the Prime Minister for over a month and the efforts can be sensed from the outcome of the reshuffle.
