Kuwait and Peru Reaffirm Bilateral Commitment Across Key Sectors in Landmark Diplomatic Visit

Kuwait and Peru have renewed their joint commitment to deepening bilateral relations across economic, political, cultural, and educational spheres, according to a joint statement released Thursday during the official visit of Peru’s Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer to Kuwait. The visit, held on April 29, marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations—an occasion that served as both a celebration of past achievements and a springboard for future cooperation.

During his visit, Minister Schialer delivered an official message from Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The letter, which underscored the historic friendship between Kuwait and Peru, was formally received by His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, in a ceremonial meeting.

In separate high-level talks, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya welcomed Minister Schialer, where both leaders engaged in a comprehensive dialogue encompassing bilateral, regional, and international developments. In particular, the ministers reiterated the importance of working toward a fair and lasting peace in the Middle East—a reflection of their shared commitment to global stability and diplomacy. The two ministers expressed satisfaction with the current trajectory of their countries’ relationship, underscoring their readiness to push forward with existing agreements while accelerating negotiations on new memorandums of understanding. The areas of focus include trade, education, cultural exchange, and capacity building—fields viewed as essential to fostering long-term development and people-to-people connectivity.

Sustainable development emerged as a key theme in the discussions, with both sides recognizing the growing urgency of addressing climate change. The ministers highlighted the potential for joint projects targeting the agricultural sector and food security, particularly in the context of climate adaptation. Continued negotiations around investment frameworks were also emphasized as crucial for achieving mutual economic growth. In a gesture of continued diplomatic engagement, Minister Schialer extended a formal invitation to Minister Al-Yahya to visit Peru, signalling intentions for sustained high-level contact and strategic dialogue.

Separately on Thursday, Kuwaiti Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah met with U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait Karen Hideko Sasahara to discuss advancing bilateral ties and coordinating responses to regional and global challenges. The flurry of diplomatic activity underscores Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to bolster its international partnerships while reinforcing its role as a constructive player in global affairs. For Peru, the visit signals an increased focus on diversifying international alliances and expanding its footprint in the Gulf region.
