Jordanian Prime Minister Meets Senior U.S. Officials in Washington to Bolster Bilateral Ties

Jordan’s Prime Minister Jafar Hassan held a series of high-level meetings with senior U.S. officials in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, underscoring the strategic partnership between Amman and Washington and seeking to deepen cooperation across key sectors, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing economic and investment collaboration, and addressing urgent regional developments, in Gaza. Prime Minister Hassan met separately with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. Discussions centered on broadening economic and investment cooperation, with both Rubio and Waltz reiterating the United States’ deep appreciation for the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and his steadfast role in promoting peace and security across the Middle East.

Focus on Gaza and Regional Peace

A significant portion of the discussions addressed the ongoing war in Gaza and regional instability. Hassan conveyed Jordan’s unwavering position, guided by King Abdullah’s directives, calling for “an immediate and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, uninterrupted humanitarian access into the Strip, and a de-escalation of tensions in the West Bank.” The prime minister emphasized Jordan’s active involvement in regional diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring calm and preventing further deterioration of the humanitarian situation.

Boosting Economic and Sectoral Cooperation

Hassan also met with key economic officials, including U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer participated in the discussions, which revolved around bolstering trade and investment ties, as well as enhancing collaboration in critical sectors such as technology, energy, pharmaceuticals, and water management.

The prime minister outlined Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision, highlighting strategic infrastructure projects like the National Water Carrier, which aims to secure long-term water sustainability for the Kingdom.

“The Economic Modernisation Vision is a roadmap for growth and opportunity in Jordan, and we welcome U.S. investment and expertise in realizing this ambitious agenda,” Hassan stated during the talks, according to Petra.

Support for Jordan’s Development Agenda

In a separate meeting with White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, Hassan discussed continued U.S. assistance to Jordan, particularly in supporting its national development goals and mitigating the impact of hosting large numbers of refugees displaced by regional conflicts.

The prime minister reaffirmed that the partnership with the United States remains “a cornerstone of Jordan’s foreign policy,” describing it as a strategic alliance built on shared values and mutual interests, both bilaterally and within the broader international context.

High-Level Jordanian Delegation Present

Accompanying the prime minister on this important diplomatic mission were Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan, and Jordan’s Ambassador to the United States, Dina Kawar.

The meetings mark a reaffirmation of Jordan’s long-standing and multifaceted relationship with the United States and come at a time of heightened regional challenges requiring coordinated diplomatic, humanitarian, and economic efforts.
