Indian actor Irrfan Khan, who achieved immense success in both the Indian film industry and the west, has passed away at the age of 53. The actor, who was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour in 2018, was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital for a colon infection on April 28. Mr Khan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar and their two sons were with him in his final moments.
“A man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen. It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him”, the actor’s team said in an official statement confirming the news.
Several Indian politicians including Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal shared their condolences via social media platforms. Mr Kejriwal tweeted, “Shocked to hear of the demise of Irrfan Khan, one of the most exceptional actors of our time. May his work always be remembered and his soul rest in peace.” Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli also paid his respects by tweeting, “Saddened to hear about the passing of Irrfan Khan. What a phenomenal talent and dearly touched everyone’s heart with his versatility. May god give peace to his soul.” \
Irrfan Khan is known for his successful performances in a range of both Bollywood and Hollywood movies such as The Lunchbox, Haider, Paan Singh Tomar, Hindi Medium, Inferno, Jurassic World, The Amazing Spider-Man, and oscar-winning movies Slumdog Millionaire and Life of Pi.
