The renovation of the key section of China’s Great Wall begins with the support of an online crowdfunding campaign launched by China Foundation of Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2016. China’s Great Wall is in poor condition, damaged by wind and rain and years of neglect and disrepair.

The crowdfunding campaign that started in 2016, has raised 2.81 million yuan (USD 4.4 lakhs) uptil now. The first stage of crowdfunding will be completed in October.

With the contribution of 174,000 people, the first stage of renovation will start with the repair of 132-metre long section of Panjiakou Great Wall. The workers will work without altering the original appearance, confirmed by the local government of Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County said.

Panjiakou section of the Great Wall was built in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and is stretched over 21,000 kms. Build during third century B.C., the wall section measures 1,500 meters in length.

According to Liu Yunquan, head of the county’s cultural relics protection institute, the next renovation will start after the new round of crowdfunding.

The Great Wall is an attraction for over four million tourists every year.
