The authorities issued a health warning about the air quality in Sydney on Thursday. The warning instructed citizens, especially children and seniors with respiratory problems to stay indoors. This was followed by the Bureau of Meteorology’s serious weather warning on Friday about dangerous winds causing disruption from Victoria to New South Wales.

According to forecasts, much of New South Wales, stretching from the centre to the coastal region is taken over by the intense dust storm. Amid the chaos caused by winds, several domestic and international flights to and from Sydney and Melbourne have been cancelled. Thousands of passengers are stuck at the Sydney airport as only one runway remains open for departure and arrival. A similar condition persists at the Melbourne airport.

Parking vehicles away from trees, looking out for exposed and hanging power lines and being cautious while driving are some of the safety guidelines released by the State Emergency Centre to ensure local’s security.
