Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his second visit to South Korea, was accorded with the prestigious Seoul Peace Prize for his “efforts in promoting global peace & harmony”
With the vision to enhance strategic partnership with South Korea, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi successfully completed a 31-hour tour to the Republic of Korea, on 22nd February 2019. Among other engagements, some of the highlights of the visit include seven MoUs exchange between the countries, PM Modi’s acceptance of the Seoul Peace Prize and ‘India-ROK Business Symposium.’
PM Modi was awarded the Seoul Peace Prize in recognition of his “efforts in promoting global peace & harmony through inclusive economic growth & improving quality of life.” Honoured to be receiving the award, PM Modi, in his acceptance speech, said, “The award belongs to the success that India has achieved in less than five years, powered by the strengths and skills of 1.3 billion Indians. And so, on their behalf, I humbly accept the Award and express my gratitude.”
India and South Korea, during the high-level visit by Indian Prime Minister, signed seven memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in key areas. The major documents exchanges includes agreement on cooperation between National Highways Authority of India and Korea Expressway Corporation; Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) and Prasar Bharti on Cooperation in Broadcasting; Korean National Police Agency and MHA on Combating Transnational Crime and Developing Police Cooperation; Start-up Cooperation and release of commemorative postal stamp on Queen Hur (Suriratna).
Moreover, an MOU on Extension of Korea Plus was also signed to further support the operations of Korea Plus, which is an organization to facilitate the investments by Korean companies in India. Taking the cordial diplomatic relations forward, the Indian PM and Korean President, Moon Jae-in held constructive talks on trade & investment, defence & security, energy, space, Start-Ups and people-to-people exchanges.
On the sidelines of the visit, PM Modi also unveiled Mahatma Gandhi’s bust in Yonsei University, in the presence of Korean President, Korean First Lady, Kim Jung-sook and former Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon.
