Kim Jong’s New Year resolution to showcase its military strength by launching new nuclear weapon is forewarning to Washington stalling negotiations.

The North Korean President Kim Jong Un announces to the world about an upcoming “nuclear weapon” that will bolster its strength. As the year came to end with no development in the US-North Korea nuclear deal, the later has laid down a strategic challenge to the US at the onset of 2020. It comes off as a warning to the Trump administration over the stalled talks between both the nations.

In his statement from a recent meeting, Kim Jong presents that his country needs to remain alert against nuclear threats from the US. This could either be ominous of North Korea resuming its nuclear missile tests or act as the catalyser to smooth the talks between the two countries. In the yearlong wait since the last US-North Korea meeting, Pyongyang had been expecting a transitional negotiation on both parts unlike the hostile treatment from Washington.

The US President Trump remains positive about the diplomatic agreements made in 2018 towards a denuclearized Korea. The US is “hopeful” that Kim Jong will not create a trans-pacific conflict. For the Trump government, the North Korean negotiation in 2018 is the ultimate card for the upcoming elections which it will not want to spoil by souring up the ties.
