Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar Meets Amir Ohana, the Speaker of Israel’s Knesset

The External Affairs Minister of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar, met the speaker of Israel’s Knesset (parliament), Amir Ohana, on Monday, April 3, 2023, in New Delhi. Talks were held between the two leaders, who focused their discussions on bilateral relationships in the spheres of food security, connectivity, start-ups, tourism, culture, and renewable energy. They further discussed strengthening the ties between India and Israel and the promotion of cooperation in I2U2.

Dr. S. Jaishankar said on Twitter that he welcomed the Israeli Knesset Speaker Amar Ohana and the parliamentary delegation in the south block on April 3. On his part, Ohana described the meeting with Dr. Jaishankar as ‘productive’. On Twitter, Ohana thanked his dear friend, the Minister of External Affairs of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar, and added that it was an important and productive meeting. He is confident about the collaboration with India that will enhance India-Israel ties, which will be beneficial for both nations.

Taking to Twitter, the Vice President of India’s official handle wrote that at the Parliament House, a parliamentary delegation from Israel, which was led by the Hon’ble Speaker of the Knesset, H.E. Mr. Amir Ohana, called on the Honourable Vice President of India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankar.

On March 31, Israel’s Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana demonstrated that India is Israel’s closest and dearest friend. He said that it is a distinctive pleasure for him to have been invited to India.

Amir Ohana made a statement during a meeting with Parliament Speaker Om Birla. He said that it was a great honor for him to be in New Delhi and meet Om Birla. His trip was not only his first to India; it was also the first formal trip to India by a speaker of the Knesset.

Amir Ohana interacted with the Jewish community that is residing in India and said that the Jewish community has lived peacefully in India for thousands of years and that those Jewish people who came to Israel from India portrayed a solid bridge between the two countries. It is one of the only countries on earth where the Jewish people could live peacefully for thousands of years without the recognition of antisemitism, for which the Jews are thankful.

Amir Ohana, who led the Israeli parliamentary delegation, called on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the Parliament House on Friday, i.e., March 31. The delegation was welcomed by Birla to India, and he added that India and Israel have enjoyed traditionally close and friendly relations.
