Indian FM attends 16th India-Russia-China Foreign Ministerial Meet

MEA Sushma Swaraj co-chaired the 16th Tri-Lateral foreign ministerial meeting with Russia and China at Zhejiang

The Indian Minister of External Affairs, Smt Sushma Swaraj led the Indian delegation during the 16th Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Russian Federation, the Republic of India and the People’s Republic of China, held in in Zhejiang, China on 27 February 2019.

The meeting co-chaired by delegations from all three nations discussed major issues international and regional concerns. Reiterating commitment to consolidate Russia-India-China trilateral relations, the leaders representing their nation agreed to “strengthen coordination, build consensus, enhance cooperation and promote world peace, stability and development.” Apart from Swaraj, the meeting was attended by Chinese Foreign, Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov.

In a Joint Communiqué released by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministers of all three participating nations “strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.” The statement also “called on the international community to strengthen UN-led global counter-terrorism cooperation by fully implementing the UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law, while respecting sovereignty and independence of all states, and expeditiously finalizing and adopting the UN Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the earliest.”

The Ministers also reaffirmed the importance of global and regional institutions such as G20, BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

While thanking China for successfully hosting the current round of discussions, the participating nations agreed on holding the next trilateral meet in Russia.
