COVID19: The US Pledges Support for Kenya and South Africa

The US President Donald Trump had a telephonic conversation with the leaders of Kenya and South Africa

US President Donald Trump has pledged the support of the US to Kenya and South Africa in the fight against COVID19. He spoke to Cyril Ramaphosa, chairperson of African Union and Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta on April 23.

Mr Ramphosa tweeted, “I had a very productive call with His Excellency President @realDonaldTrump of the United States of America. We discussed the impact of #COVID19 on our two countries. I have passed our condolences to the Government and people of the US on the devastation the virus has wrought.”

According to reports from African news channels, the US president also spoke to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta. Sherwin Bryce-Pease of SABC News on April 24 tweeted a read-out from White House of call between President Donald Trump and Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The WHO has reported 18,731 confirmed COVID19 cases in Africa as of April 24. So far, 45 countries in Africa have confirmed COVID19 cases.
