After gaining Independence from Spain in 1810, Colombia is set to witnesses a fresh leadership with their new leader, Ivan Duque Marquez.
Ivan Duque succeeded Juan Manuel Santos to become the 60th president of Colombia. He defeated his rival with 54 percent of votes during the presidential elections in June this year.
Juan was outcasted from the Presidential chair after his rule for 8 years in the country.
Ivan Duque, sworn-in as the president of Colombia at Bolivar Square which lies in the Centre of Bogota. This monument dates back to the pre-Colombian era.
Over 12,000 police were deployed at Bolivar Square for Duque’s swearing-in ceremony, according to local reports, as per Reuters.
The leaders present during the swearing-in ceremony were the Mayor of the US city of Miami, Francis Suarez, Pablo Casado who is the leader of Spain’s Popular party.
Duque has authored many books and is a Law degree holder. His books are named as Monetary Sins (2007), Machiavelli in Colombia (2010), Orange Effect (2015), IndignAcción (IndignAction) (2017) and co-authored- The Orange Economy: An Infinite Opportunity (2013).
Duque belongs to the Democratic Centre Party of Colombia and formerly served as a senator. He also had served as an advisor to Colombian ministry of Finance and Public Credit.
