Egypt and Bahrain Sign Eight Landmark Agreements

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has overseen the signing of eight pivotal agreements between Egypt and the Kingdom of Bahrain, marking a significant step towards deepening economic and developmental cooperation between the two nations on 8th September, 2025. The accords, which cover a wide range of sectors, reflect the shared determination to expand bilateral relations and stimulate sustainable growth.

The first memorandum of understanding (MoU) was concluded between the Egypt Aluminium Company and Aluminium Bahrain (Alba). This partnership will explore the feasibility of establishing an alumina refinery in Egypt, a move that could bolster the country’s industrial capabilities and support regional aluminium production. In a parallel effort to attract greater cross-border investment, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) signed an MoU with the Bahrain Economic Development Board. This agreement is designed to strengthen channels of investment cooperation and enhance opportunities for joint ventures.

The sphere of exhibitions and events also received a boost as the Egypt Expo & Convention Authority (EECA) and Exhibition World Bahrain formalised a strategic cooperation agreement, paving the way for closer collaboration in hosting and organising international events. To facilitate trade flows, the Egyptian Customs Authority and Bahrain Customs Affairs signed a mutual recognition agreement under the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme. This initiative seeks to simplify customs procedures, improve supply chain efficiency, and encourage smoother commercial exchanges between the two countries.

Tourism emerged as another focal point, with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities entering into a cooperation MoU with Bahrain’s Ministry of Tourism. In addition, the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt reached an accord with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities to strengthen cooperation in the preservation and management of antiquities and museums. These agreements highlight a shared commitment to cultural heritage, preservation, and the promotion of tourism. Competition policy was also addressed through the signing of an MoU between the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) and Bahrain’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce. This aims to prevent monopolistic practices and foster fair competition across both economies.

The eighth and final agreement was signed by Egypt’s Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation with Bahrain’s Ministry of Sustainable Development. The accord focuses on enhancing technical cooperation, exchanging expertise, and building capacity in the field of sustainable development, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to long-term economic resilience. Collectively, these eight agreements represent a broad and ambitious framework for future cooperation. They underscore Egypt and Bahrain’s shared vision of economic integration, cultural exchange, and sustainable progress, setting the stage for stronger bilateral ties in the years ahead.
