Vietnam and Slovakia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in crime prevention and law enforcement, as Vietnamese Ambassador to Slovakia Pham Truong Giang met with Ladislav Csemi, Advisor to the Slovak Minister of Interior, in Bratislava on May 6, 2025.
During their working session, the two officials discussed ways to enhance bilateral collaboration based on a 2017 cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Slovak Ministry of Interior. Their talks focused on key areas such as combating transnational crime, terrorism, cybercrime, drug trafficking, financial crimes, human trafficking, and organised crime. Both sides also considered the possibility of initiating negotiations on mutual legal assistance agreements and promoting the exchange of delegations between relevant agencies to bolster practical cooperation.
Ambassador Giang appreciated Slovakia’s continued interest in deepening bilateral law enforcement ties, highlighting the country as one of Vietnam’s long-standing traditional partners. He noted that Slovakia’s recognition of the Vietnamese community as an official ethnic minority underlines the contributions of the Vietnamese diaspora to Slovak society and strengthens the foundation for bilateral collaboration. Advisor Csemi welcomed the Vietnamese proposals and conveyed Slovakia’s readiness to host Vietnamese delegations and explore joint initiatives. He underscored the importance of international cooperation in addressing growing global security challenges and affirmed that the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Slovakia serve as a bridge to elevate bilateral relations.
The meeting occurred in the context of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Slovakia. Both officials agreed to maintain regular communication and work closely to fully tap into the potential of the Vietnam–Slovakia partnership in the area of crime prevention.
