The Democrats are yet to win over the Republican majority against President Trump whose impeachment trial is taking place in the Senate.

The decision on US President Donald Trump’s political fate hangs in the balance of the outcome of the impeachment trial which is going on this week. The Democrats have clinically taken on every argument that the Republicans might present in defence of the President next week.

President Trump is the third leader of the United States to face impeachment, after President Johnson in 1868 and President Clinton in 1999. As the presidential election draws near in the US, the political climate is getting intensive and the Democrats would rather up the ante with Trump’s impeachment trial.

The Democrats have alleged President Trump of seeking Ukrainian interference in the upcoming presidential election. President Trump has been accused of withholding the military aid to Ukraine and pressurising it to announce the investigation into Joe Biden who might be the presidential candidate in opposition.

The Trump administration has denied all the charges as the trial takes place in the Senate. The Democrats in the Upper Chamber of the US Congress have extensively laid out all their arguments to win over some Republican votes that are in majority in the Senate.

In the next week, President Trump’s legal team will take the floor to give arguments in his defence. The Republican majority in the Senate is the blockade that Democrats face against issuing subpoenas to Trump’s aides to testify in the house.
