UK Trade Envoy to Embark on First Official Visit to Ghana

The British High Commission in Accra has announced that Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP, the United Kingdom’s newly appointed Trade Envoy to Ghana, will undertake her inaugural official visit to the country from 19 to 22 May 2025. The visit, which spans Accra and Kumasi, underscores the UK’s deepening commitment to bolstering bilateral trade relations and fostering inclusive economic growth with Ghana.

Appointed in January 2025 by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Ms. Ribeiro-Addy is part of the UK’s expansive network of Trade Envoys, tasked with advancing British trade interests in over 70 countries. Her Ghana mission marks a significant milestone in her role and aligns with the UK’s strategic aim of strengthening economic ties across Africa.

During her four-day visit, Ms. Ribeiro-Addy will engage with a broad spectrum of key stakeholders, including:

  • Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, Minister of Finance
  • Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry
  • Hon. Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, Deputy Minister of Education
  • Senior government officials, traditional authorities, and academia
  • UK businesses active in Ghana and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC)

The discussions will focus on enhancing trade and investment opportunities, exploring areas for mutual economic growth, and reinforcing the economic partnership between the UK and Ghana. In Kumasi, Ms. Ribeiro-Addy will visit two major infrastructure projects backed by UK Export Finance (UKEF): the Kumasi International Airport and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital maternity block. These projects exemplify the UK’s continued support for sustainable development and infrastructure enhancement in Ghana’s Ashanti Region.

As part of her itinerary, Ms. Ribeiro-Addy will also host a high-level roundtable with the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus, aimed at encouraging gender-inclusive approaches to economic development and leadership. Speaking ahead of her visit, Ms. Ribeiro-Addy said:

“I am honoured to represent the UK in Ghana and look forward to engaging with our Ghanaian partners. This visit is an important step in strengthening our trade relations and exploring new avenues for collaboration. I am confident that our discussions will pave the way for a brighter economic future for both our countries.”

The visit is expected to further solidify UK-Ghana economic relations, setting the stage for long-term collaboration in trade, investment, and development.
