The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, organised a historic ceremony on 13 August 2024 to mark the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Seychelles and Turkmenistan. The signing of the official Protocol by Mr. Serdarmammet Garajayev, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the United Arab Emirates, and Mr. Gervais Moumou, Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles to the United Arab Emirates, is a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries. This historic occasion brought about a new era of cooperation between the two countries.
The Protocol is a testament to the mutual respect and equality that underscore the partnership between both parties. It outlines the establishment of diplomatic and consular services in both nations, following the United Nations charter and international law. The Protocol stresses the importance of mutual respect, equality, and non-interference in internal affairs to foster fair relationships.
After the signing, both leaders discussed various aspects of bilateral ties between the Republic of Seychelles and Turkmenistan. The discussion focused on the potential for strengthening political and economic cooperation, exploring exciting possibilities for collaboration in sectors such as tourism, education, and trade, and increasing cultural exchanges. Both sides expressed their willingness to deepen the partnership and continue dialogue to enhance partnership between the two nations.
Besides political and economic collaborations, both dignitaries discussed possibly expanding tourism and cultural relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Seychelles. The Awaza National Touristic Zone in Turkmenistan, according to Ambassador Serdarmammet, was a prime example of the country’s commitment to expand its tourism sector. The Ambassador emphasised the potential to collaborate in the tourism sector to open up this beautiful country, known for its scenic beaches and stunning resorts, to tourists from Seychelles.
The Ambassadors also agreed that enhanced tourism and cultural relations would facilitate bonds of friendship and promote mutual economic benefits. Both sides discussed the potential of expanding the said sector by establishing direct travel routes and celebrating both countries’ unique attractions and traditions by jointly organising cultural events. A focus on tourism is believed to bring the people of both countries closer by fostering an appreciation of Turkmenistan and Seychelles’ culture. Stronger people-to-people ties would aid both nations in preserving their cultural heritage and deepen bilateral relations.
The signing and subsequent meeting were held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. It reflected the shared values and mutual respect between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Seychelles. Constructive dialogue between the two sides laid a strong foundation for future cooperation, and both sides were optimistic about prospects for the future.
