External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on 8th January, 2026 Thursday met French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, reaffirming the strength of the India–France strategic partnership and exchanging views on key global developments at a time of significant geopolitical change. During the meeting, Jaishankar conveyed the warm wishes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to President Macron and expressed appreciation for the French leader’s perspectives on contemporary international issues. The discussions reflected the shared outlook of both countries on global stability, strategic autonomy and the importance of a multipolar world order.
Sharing details of the interaction on social media platform X, the External Affairs Minister said he was “delighted” to call on President Macron and noted the positive sentiments expressed towards the long-standing strategic partnership between India and France. He highlighted that the exchange of views covered a broad range of global developments shaping international politics today. Earlier in the day, EAM Jaishankar addressed the Ambassadors’ Conference of France, where he spoke at length about the far-reaching shifts underway in the global system. He underlined how changes driven by trade, finance, technology, energy, resources and connectivity are redefining international relations. According to him, beyond material factors, changes in mindset have played a crucial role in shaping the current global landscape.
At the conference, EAM Jaishankar emphasised the significance of the India–France partnership in promoting multipolarity and strategic autonomy. He noted that cooperation between the two countries contributes not only to their bilateral ties but also to broader efforts aimed at maintaining balance and stability in global politics. President Macron, meanwhile, announced earlier on Thursday that he would visit India next month, as New Delhi prepares to host the AI Impact Summit. He made the announcement while addressing the Diplomatic Corps, according to broadcaster France 24. The visit is expected to further deepen bilateral engagement and cooperation in emerging and strategic domains.
On Wednesday, EAM Jaishankar also held talks with his French counterpart, Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. Both countries are active players on the international stage and share a commitment to multipolarity. Indian officials have repeatedly underlined that close coordination between New Delhi and Paris is vital not only for strengthening bilateral relations but also for contributing to a more stable and balanced global order.
