US President Donald Trump appeared undeterred during his State of the Union address as his acquittal from impeachment draws near and certain.
At his annual address to the US Congress, President Trump presented his defiant case for a second term in the presidential office. As his impeachment trial in the Senate comes to an end, his acquittal is considered highly certain when the Senate goes to vote on Wednesday.
On the eve of President Trump’s State address, the Republicans ran the House where the Democrats are, otherwise, in the majority. President Trump was cheered and applauded throughout his speech that lasted for 78 minutes.
The State of the Union address 2020 had emotional and poignant moments as well as the theatrics of political tussle in the full view of cameras. President Trump is set to begin his presidential campaign, selling the vision of “American comeback” this time around.
His speech aimed to canvass the Latin and Black Americans and to swing away some of their vote shares into the Republican court. He emphasised on the significant trade agreements he signed with Mexico and Canada.
President Trump is, undoubtedly, riding on the waves of a strong economy and low unemployment rate for the upcoming elections in the fall. While addressing the Congress, he highlighted the new trade deal signed with China as America’s moment of “standing up to China”. His speech stressed on limiting abortions, acknowledging the pro-life cause to dazzle his core supporters of evangelicals and conservative Christians. He took plenty of digs at the Democrats as the opposition looks divided to appoint a face for their election campaign.
