New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Davos, Switzerland, today to attend the 48th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.

This will be the first participation by an Indian head of state in the WEF after over two decades. For the first time, India will host the welcome reception at WEF, where global leaders will get to taste Indian cuisine and watch yoga sessions.

The Prime Minister will arrive at Zurich at 5:30 PM from where he will head to Davos, followed by a meeting with the Swiss president at 10:00 PM.

The prime minister, will be accompanied by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu among others, is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on the opening day of the meeting on Tuesday.

“I look forward to my first visit to the World Economic Forum at Davos, at the invitation of India’s good friend and Founder of the WEF, Prof Klaus Schwab. The theme of the Forum, “Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World” is both thoughtful and apt,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

Prime Minister Modi will also hold bilateral talks with the President of Swiss Confederation, Alain Berset, Prime Minister of Sweden H. E. Mr. Stefan Lofven besides holding a series of meetings with business leaders and addressing the International Business Council on Tuesday.

In recent years, India’s engagement with the outside world has become truly and effectively multi-dimensional covering the political, economic, people to people, security and other spheres.

“I am confident that these bilateral meetings would be fruitful and give a boost to our relations with these countries and further strengthen economic engagement,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet.

Under the theme “Creating a shared future in a Fractured World”, the meeting aims to set an agenda to address political, economic and social challenges of recent times.
