Final Stage of Vienna Talks to Resume

On 8th February 2022, the Iran nuclear deal has resumed in Vienna. The talks have been already been going on continuously over the last few weeks now. Over the last few weeks although there has been progressing over the revival of the 2015 landmark accord yet the final decision about the same has yet to come. This will be the eighth round of talks that will be taking place. The US administration under President Trump withdrew from the agreement in 2018 and imposed tough economic sanctions over the country, prompting the Islamic republic to begin pulling back from its commitments under the deal and step up its nuclear activities. Iran has been refusing to talk to the US after the harsh sanctions were imposed on them so the European Union has been acting as a mediator between the two to settle the issue and revive the deal.

The spokesperson Alain Matton of the European Union in one of the statements stated, “The 8th round of the Vienna Talks… attended by China, France, Germany, Russia, United Kingdom, Iran and the United States resume tomorrow in Vienna”.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh while speaking to the media stated “We have made significant progress in various areas of the Vienna negotiations” including on guarantees that Iran seeks that a new U.S. administration would not breach the deal once again.” Further, “We hope that what is deemed positive statements will turn into commitments in action and we will be able to reach a good and reliable agreement in Vienna.”

The U.S State Department last week decided that it is waiving sanctions on Iran’s civil nuclear programme but are waiting for approval from JCPOA on some technical issues. This will allow other countries as well as companies to participate in Iran’s civil nuclear programme. The following process won’t be against any and also not pose a situation of sanctions and create a better environment to settle the situation.
