Advantage Assam 2.0 – Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025 is an Investors’ Summit that is taking place at Guwahati, Assam from February 25-26, 2025. This event marks the largest investment promotion and facilitation initiative by the Government of Assam, underscoring the state’s geostrategic primacy and its potential as a major global investment destination.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit and during his address he said “East India and North East India are embarking on a new journey of future today and Advantage Assam is a mega initiative to intertwine the incredible potential and progress of Assam with the world”. He highlighted that Advantage Assam was a representation of the same spirit and congratulated the Government and the Chief Minister of Assam for organising such a grand event for global investment. Further, he emphasised that Assam’s natural resources and strategic location renders it as preferred destination for investment, citing Assam tea as an example of the state’s potential, and that it has become a global brand over the past 200 years, inspiring progress in other sectors as well. Earlier on 24th February, Prime Minister Modi also participated at the Jhumoir Binandini 2025, a Mega Jhumoir programme in Guwahati. The Jhumoir Binandini 2025 is a magnificent cultural extravaganza with several thousand of performers participating in the Jhumoir dance, a folk dance of Assam Tea Tribe and Adivasi Communities of Assam that embodies the spirit of inclusivity, unity, cultural pride, and Assam’s syncretic cultural mélange. The Mega Jhumoir event symbolises 200 years of the tea industry, and 200 years of industrialisation in Assam, thereby giving more reason to invest in Assam.
Whereas, speaking at the inaugural session of the Summit, Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswas Sarma highlighted that the state’s transformation marked Assam’s rapid infrastructure expansion, stating that 2,327 kilometers of national highways have been built since 2016. He also noted that Assam’s revenue has grown from USD 29 billion in 2013 to USD 68.7 billion in 2023. He shared “during the first edition of Advantage on February 3-4, 2018, our Numaligarh Refinery was expanded to 9 million metric tons at a cost of Rs. 27,000 cr.
Additionally, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar along with the Heads of Mission and Ambassadors under took safaris at the Kaziranga National Park on 24th February, ahead of the two-day Advantage Assam Investment Summit. Taking to X, he shared “An early morning safari @kaziranga National Park, along with Ambassadors. Assam’s natural wildlife scenes are indeed stunning and pristine. Next stop- Advantage Assam 2.0.”
All in all, Assam being strategically located in the northeastern region of India, serves as a gateway to Northeast India and Southeast Asia, giving investors a prime opportunity to invest in Assam. The state is renowned for its lush tea gardens and petroleum resources and is now diversifying into sectors such as agriculture, food processing, handicrafts, tourism, and information technology.
