A Warm Welcome to EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar in Mozambique

External Affairs Minister (EAM), Dr. S. Jaishankar, recently visited Mozambique and said that he “was very warmly received” by the African nation. In a podcast published on his Twitter account on Sunday, Dr. Jaishankar talked extensively about his trip to the country while recalling his recent trip on the “Made in India” train in Maputo with the Mozambican Transport Minister.

Dr.Jaishankar spoke with President Nyusi in their meeting. Along with Minister Veronica Mocamo, his counterpart, he served as co-chair of a joint commission. He spoke with the ministers of transport and health and called on the speaker of the National Assembly. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including bilateral, regional, and global concerns. Discussions also included issues pertaining to collaboration in multilateral fora, such as the UN. A bridge across the River Buzi that is a component of a 132-kilometer road being built under a Government of India LoC was also virtually launched by him.

Dr.Jaishankar was welcomed in Mozambique by Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Manuel Jose Goncalves. He also met with Esperança Bias, President of the Assembly of the Republic, with whom he spoke about disaster preparedness, green growth, and counter-terrorism. In addition, he reaffirmed India’s support for Mozambique’s sustainable development, according to the minister.

Speaking of his interactions while in Mozambique, the External Affairs Minister mentioned that he also visited a pharmaceutical business run by a well-known Indian community member where extremely cutting-edge technology had been applied for fillings and formulations as well as truly localizing. Dr. Jaishankar tweeted on Sunday that he had attended a meeting of the Friends of India and the Indian community, addressed them, and offered prayers at the Salamanca Temple, a century-old shrine to Sri Ramachandraji, as well as the Shiva Temple in Maputo. This visit came after seven years.

While talking about the train ride, the minister claimed that the train was effective and actually catered to the needs of local commuters. Dr. Jaishankar traveled through Mozambique on Thursday in a train that was “Made in India.” Rahul Mithal, Chief Managing Director of Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), was also praised for joining him and Magala.

Dr. Jaishnakar added that his ride on a “Made in India” train, which is responsive and efficient to the local commuters of Mozambique and which for the Mozambique side was accessible and affordable, demonstrates that it was a very good demonstration of the fit that both nations have in terms of their partnership.

From April 10 to 15, 2023, Dr. Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs, traveled on official visits to both the Republic of Uganda and Mozambique. On April 13, 2023, he also made a quick stop in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

EAM was in Uganda from April 10 to 12, 2023. In Kampala, EAM met with President Yoweri Museveni and had extensive conversations with General Jeje Odongo, the Ugandan Foreign Minister, about a variety of topics.
