The world remembers the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp at the World Holocaust Forum in Jerusalem; Poland gives it amiss amid tensions with Russia.

The leaders of more than 40 countries have assembled in Jerusalem to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. Israel is organizing the fifth edition of the World Holocaust Forum which will be a two-day event to commemorate the lives lost in the Holocaust.

The theme of this year’s Auschwitz Forum is titled ‘Remembering the Holocaust: Fighting Anti-Semitism’. The Auschwitz concentration camp had become the centre of Nazi Holocaust that killed over millions of Jews in its gas chambers.

As world leaders arrive in Tel Aviv for the Auschwitz Forum 2020, Poland will give it amiss amid tensions with Russia and Putin. Russia’s President Putin who has been invited to speak at the conference had commented last month about Poland share of anti-Semitic involvement in the Holocaust. Warsaw will be organising its own Holocaust Memorial to remember and honour the memories of the Holocaust victims.

US Vice President Mike Pence and Russian President Vladimir Putin will be sharing the stage with Germany’s Steinmeier, and Britain’s Prince Charles among other leaders, at Israel’s largest Holocaust event in Jerusalem. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the fight against racism, extremism and anti-Semitism needs to be won with democratic values.
