UK’s Labour Party launched its 107-page manifesto titled ‘It’s Time for Real Change’ for 12th General Election. On Thursday, Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn released it. The party has pledged to go further on Jallianwala Bagh massacre and pledge to apologies to Indians for it.

With a pledge to institute an audit into the country’s colonial past, the party includes an apology to India for the massacre in Amritsar 100 years ago in its election manifesto. Earlier this year, former British Prime Minister Theresa May had also given short of a formal apology.

In her speech, she expressed “deep regret” for the colonial era attack on Vaisakhi which coincide with its 100th anniversary this year.

Labour Part not only stops at apology rather they commit to constitute a judge-led inquiry into Britain’s “injustices of the past,” Interestingly, it will also include a public review of the country’s role in Operation Blue Star – referred to as the “Amritsar massacre.”

Under the sub-head “Effective Diplomacy” the manifesto notes, “We will issue a formal apology for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, and hold a public review into Britain’s role in the Amritsar massacre,”

In 2014, declassified UK government documents had revealed that British military had given advice to Indian forces prior to Indian Army’s intervention at the Golden Temple. Some British Sikh groups demand inquiry into the exact nature of the advice.

The party shed light on “New Internationalism”, and said that within it’s their first year; it would “conduct an audit of the impact of Britain’s colonial legacy”. The aim of the move is “to understand our contribution to the dynamics of violence and insecurity across regions previously under British colonial rule.”

The manifesto portrays party’s radical offering for the electorate in next month’s election. Above all, the objective is to transform the UK and renationalize rail, mail, water and energy.
