PM Modi kicks off Raisina Dialogue, aims for greater Indo-Pacific influence

India stages the multilateral conference with leaders and delegates of over 100 countries to discuss global issues at the Raisina Dialogue 2020

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the three-day conference of the fifth edition of the Raisina Dialogue 2020 on Tuesday. The global meet is India’s initiative to set up the platform for converged discourse on global issues and Asia-Pacific relations. New Delhi is hosting the delegations of around 100 countries with many foreign ministers, military leaders and former world leaders in attendance. The multilateral conference has been titled ‘Navigating the Alpha Century’ as India looks to emerge as a key player in the Indo-Pacific region in the global limelight. The event was supposed to be addressed by Australian PM Morrison in person who sent a video message for the conference as he had to call off his official visit to tackle with the bushfire emergency situation Down Under.

Russia on Asia-Pacific Region

The Russian Foreign Minister has opined that India should be considered for the permanent seat at the UNSC. He also stressed that the role of China in the Asia-Pacific has been instrumental in the rise of the projected Asia Century. He urged India not to be divisive in its approach while extending its influence in the developments of the Indo-Pacific strategy with the US. Russia has maintained major strategic relations with both India and China over the years and has a vested interest in Asia-Pacific regions.

The leaders and foreign ministers of countries participating in the Raisina Dialogue 2020 have hailed PM Modi for his vision on India’s relation with the world. The former leader of Canada has said that India has self-defined itself and regained its identity under the leadership of PM Modi.

Among several discussions ranging from NATO in the Middle East to the US-Iran escalating tensions, climate change was discussed emphatically. It is imperative to say that India has been successful in exerting its own platform and channelling the narratives for global discourse.
