PM meets Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee

On Tuesday, PM Modi met the Nobel Laureate, Abhijit Banerjee. After the meeting, the PM said that he “had a very healthy and extensive interaction on various subjects”. Furthermore, he wished him luck for his future endeavours. 

PM Modi tweeted about the meeting and wrote: “excellent meeting with Nobel Laureate”. He also mentioned that “his passion towards human empowerment is clearly visible”.

In the same vein, he wrote “we had a healthy and extensive interaction on various subjects”. Along with this, he mentioned that “India is proud of his accomplishments” He ended up by “wishing him the very best for his future endeavours”.

The Nobel Laureate also shared his experience via twitter and wrote: “It is really a privilege to have a meeting with PM Modi”. He appreciates the gesture and wrote that “PM was kind enough to give me quite a lot of time”.

He further added that “one hears about politics, but one rarely hears about the thinking behind it”. He mentioned about a significant reform which the government is planning to undertake.

In this regard, he mentioned PM Modi’s plan to “reform the Bureaucracy” and “expose them to reality on the ground”. Finally, he summed up by saying “his way of thinking about India is quite unique”.     

Banerjee is an Indian born American professor at Massachusetts Institute of technology. Interestingly, he shares the Nobel Prize of 2019 with his wife Esther Duflo- a French American Economist. The couple won the prize with Harvard’s Michael Kremer “for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty”.
