Minister of External Affairs meets Mauritius PM

On Monday, Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar met Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth in New Delhi. He also congratulates the new PM on his electoral victory in the Island country’s recently concluded parliamentary polls.

During a discussion, the two leaders reiterate their commitment towards taking the bilateral relations to new heights. Later in a tweet, Mr Jaishankar, “congratulated him on the electoral victory” Along with this, he also “reaffirmed” their “commitment to take forward our special relationship”, he mentioned.  

On Thursday, PM Jugnauth, paid obeisance at the ancient Mata Baglamukhi temple in Himachal Pradesh along with his wife Kobita Ramdanee. Along with this, they also pay visit to Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib in New Delhi.  After his re-election, he is on his first visit to India.     

On Friday, he held a discussion with Prime Minster Narendra Modi. During the meeting both the leaders promised to collaborate on building multi-faceted bilateral relations. Both the leaders are keen on exploring new avenues of engagement based on mutual interest and priority.

On November 7, he won a hard fought re-election on the Island country with a population of 1.3 million people. He belongs to Mauritius’ Militiant Socialist Movement (MSM) party and his party is in power since last five years. Last month, Prime Minister Modi had congratulated Jugnauth on his electoral victory.

PM Modi in a tweet said, “Congratulations @PKJugnauth on your electoral victory.” Furthermore, he said that they “have worked closely together to strengthen fraternal relations and development partnership between India and Mauritius.” Finally, he summed up by saying, “I look forward to speaking with you soon and to continuing our engagement.”
