India observes mourning for Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said who passed away at 79.
The world leaders pay respect to Oman’s iconic leader, Sultan Qaboos bin Said who died at the age of 79. India has shared a warm relationship with Oman under the rule of Sultan Qaboos. He was moderate in his approach and is credited for transforming his country with modern appeal.
The Indian national flag will be flown at half-staff in respect to the late king’s memory. India and Oman have enjoyed a thriving bilateral and trade relationships over the years. The late Sultan of Oman had introduced Oman to the modern world and at the same time, he did not fail to encourage and preserve his regional culture and traditions.
Even in the face of heightened tensions in the Middle East, Sultan Qaboos was able to govern his country through peaceful, diplomatic and prosperous ties with the others. As a matter of fact, Oman had been the first country to welcome and foster warm ties Israel in the Middle East.
Sultan Qaboos took over his father’s reign in a coup and made significant changes to the foreign policy of Oman. His ambitious move changed the internal politics of the country as he warmed up relations with the UK and the West as well as with Islamic nations like Iran. His reign saw effective changes in transport, education and economic conditions of the country. He took a developing Oman to progressive heights.
Oman has declared three days of national mourning as the late king’s cousin Sultan Haitham bin Tariq takes on the charge as the new king.
