Lok Sabha Polls 2019: Gujarat’s OBC Leader Alpesh Thakor Resigns from Congress

Rumoured to join the BJP a month ago, Gujarat OBC leader Alpesh Thakor has quit the Congress Party, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha Polls

OBC leader from Gujarat, Alpesh Thakor, quit the Congress Party on Wednesday. Congress MLA  and Thakor’s close aide Dhavalsinh Zala has confirmed the news ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha Polls.  Thakor has further asserted that he will not contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.

“Thakor Sena committee passed a resolution and asked three of the Congress MLAs, namely Alpesh, Bharat Thakor, and me, to leave Congress to protest against the ignorance of Thakor community by the party. There is no plan to join any other party so far,” said Zala.

Thakor resigned from the party a day ahead of the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The OBC leader was speculated to join the BJP, but he rubbished all rumours a month ago. He has, however, admitted that he was angry with the Congress Party leadership.

“I will stay with Congress and will continue to support this party. I want respect and rights for my people,” said the OBC leader.

He runs the Gujarat Kshatriya-Thakor Sena that aims to eliminate liquor addiction from the community. Thakor has also established the OSS (OBC, ST, SC) Ekta Manch.

The OBC leader has been forcing Gujarat Government to get stricter laws on illegal sale of liquor. He also wants the state government to make clear policies for better employment opportunities for locals in industries.

Thakor has demanded yearly package for backward communities of worth Rs. 5,000 crore for their betterment.
