The legend of the Indian film industry Amitabh Bachchan was honored at the 50Th Dadasaheb Phalke Awards.

The 50th Dadasaheb Phalke Award was presented to Mr. Amitabh Bachchan for his distinguished contributions to the growth and development of Indian cinema. The award stands to be the highest form of honor in Indian cinema. The award includes a Golden Kamal (Lotus) medallion and a cash prize of Rs. 1,000,000. The award was presented to Mr. Bachchan by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Mr. Bachchan, after receiving the award, said, “When this award was announced, a doubt arose in my mind: if this is an indication for me to sit at home and relax after working for so many years? There is some more work I have to finish, and certain possibilities are coming up where I may get a chance to do some work.”

Mr. Bachchan was present at the ceremony with his wife Jaya Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan. It was a moment of pride for the Bachchan family, as Abhishek Bachchan took to Instagram to congratulate his father with a post which read, “My inspiration. My hero. Congratulations Pa on the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. We are all so, so proud of you. Love you.”

In a career spanning nearly five decades, the 77-year actor has given gems like Sholay, Zanjeer, Pink, Deewar, Kabhie Kabhie, Chupke Chupke, Amar Akbar Anthony, Don, The Great Gambler, Muqaddar ka Sikandar, Coolie, Sooryavansham, Black and Pa, to name just a few.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award was introduced in 1969 by the Government of India to celebrate the ‘father of Indian Cinema,’ Dadasaheb Phalke’s contribution to the Indian cinema.
