Lok Sabha Election For The Third Phase Begins, Star Candidates To Lock Their Fate Today

Third Phase of Lok Sabha Elections commenced today

BJP chief Amit Shah, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, and Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav are among the high-profile candidates to seal their vote in the third phase.

Lok Sabha Election for the Third Phase began on Tuesday morning for 117 seats across 13 states and two Union Territories. The national election also witnessed star candidates heading to lock their fate today.

States which are voting in this largest phase are Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Gujarat. Besides, polling is also undergoing in West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Assam, and Goa.

The voters of Tripura East constituency are casting their franchise in this phase. The Election Commission had postponed polling here due to law and order situation. Two Union Territory constituencies – Daman and Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli – are carrying out polls. Also, it is the first phase of polling being held in the terror-hit Anantnag constituency in Jammu & Kashmir.

EVM glitches caused delay in polling at several polling booths in Ernakulam, Rajkot, Chikkodi, and Raichur. According to the Election Commission of India report, polling percentage recorded till 11:30 am showed 23.56% voters turnout.

A polling booth in Kerala’s Cherthala saw disrupted voting after LDF alleged all votes are going to BJP candidate. BJP workers beat an election official at a polling booth. He was alleged of asking the voters to press the ‘cycle’ symbol of Samajwadi party. Irregularities and violence were also reported from Malda in West Bengal.

A number of high-profile candidates will see their fate being locked in the third phase of Lok Sabha Elections. BJP chief Amit Shah, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, and Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav are some to be named.

With the Third Phase, polling will be over in six states comprising of 302 of the 542 Lok Sabha seats. The rest of the constituencies will vote in the remaining four phases till May 19.
